Steve Benbow is a seasoned risk management professional, critical care paramedic, and governance expert with a career spanning high-risk industries worldwide. His expertise includes Formula 1 safety management, aviation security, medical repatriation, and strategic advisory roles for global organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO).
With experience in motorsport, healthcare, aviation, and emergency management, Steve has built GMT to offer seamless, discreet, and expert-led services tailored to clients operating in high-stakes environments.

Provided external quality assurance and endpoint assessment for Futerqual, Qualsafe, and Highfield, supporting NHS ambulance services and private healthcare organizations. Played a key role in developing robust education and training systems for pre-hospital medicine, including assessment frameworks, quality audits, and assessor training. Additionally, identified and resolved process inefficiencies in training centers through targeted analysis and strategic improvements, ensuring higher standards and consistency.
Manages health and safety for a Formula 1 team, overseeing everything from car design and testing to race weekend compliance across international locations. Previously held HSEQ roles in the petrochemical industry across the UK, Asia, and Africa, developing and enforcing safety policies to meet local and global regulations.
Combining expertise in healthcare, Formula 1, and oil and gas safety, oversees emergency preparedness and response for natural disasters, industrial accidents, and public health crises. As Head of Clinical Governance for an international assistance company, developed systems for remote African clinics and managed aeromedical evacuations from hostile environments for the US government, showcasing expertise in risk assessment, decision-making, and complex logistics.
Provides clinical governance to NHS organisations and across various industries, applying expertise in risk and governance to identify, evaluate, and mitigate risks. Experience ranges from clinical governance within the NHS to aviation medicine, encompassing everything from designated air ambulance services to commercial repatriation.
Oversees compliance with laws and regulations, drawing on experience as an aviation security advisor to Formula 1 teams and Formula 1 management. This includes establishing systems for the safety and security of identifiable airfreight within race team factories and the Formula 1 paddock, aligning with the National
Aviation Safety Programme. Further experience includes serving as a Civil Aviation Authority trainer on the AC33, Known Consigner, and Regulated Agent training programmes.
During the pandemic, advised government agencies and NGOs on infodemic management, tackling health misinformation during public health crises. Presented in Seoul on behalf of the South Korean government, providing insights into the UK’s pandemic preparedness and response. Developed strategies that significantly improved the uptake of accurate health information.
Developed and delivered international courses at Robert Gordon University and the Royal Agricultural University, specializing in remote, rural, and austere care pathways. Designed training for healthcare professionals and specialist agricultural lone workers, including arborists and those handling specialized animal breeds, with a focus on zoonoses and public health considerations.
Contributes to the design, implementation, and standardisation of safety protocols and procedures globally through involvement with BSI and ISO. departments, ICU, and perioperative surgical care. Within an NHS hospital setting, implemented and coordinated clinical governance during recent clinical challenges, ranging from pandemic surge management to addressing surgical backlogs.
